Development League West : Queen of the South 1 Queens Park 2

Queens were defeated on Tuesday night via a controversial last minute penalty in a game that they paid the ultimate price for not turning possession into goals. The result will be hard to take for the young lads who deserved much more than this.

Queens dominated for long periods but as so often this season failed to turn that into goals. Top scorer Aiden Smith did however give the home side the lead in the first period bursting into the box and collecting the rebound from his own shot to prod it past the keeper. McInally was kept out by the visiting keeper and Moxon was inches away from doubling the lead with a precision low shot as half time approached. Half time seemed to break the momentum and the visitors were more of a threat in the second half though and they equalised when a long ball out of defence found the winger who cut in past the falling full back to place his shot under Atkinson.

Queens still looked the more likely and got their reward when Smith latched onto a header and was taken out by the advancing keeper to concede a penalty. He redeemed himself immediately by making a fine save low to his left from Smith to keep it level. It stayed that way until the final minute when the referee decided that the Queens defender had deliberately handled a shot hit at him from point blank range. The decision saw a number of Queens players booked for protesting before it was dispatched down the middle to give the visitors victory.
