Update from the Manager

“Reflecting back, last Sunday’s result was tough to take, I thought we were still well in the game at half time, but we didn’t take the opportunity we had and then to lose Derek Lyle so early into the second half it was always going to be a struggle”.

“We’re a young team still gelling together, so it was a good learning experience for them against a strong team who have strength and depth in their squad, they have players from Tottenham and Arsenal so they’ll be a tough act to get the better of over the course of a season, but we’ll learn as a group and we will lick out wounds and get on with the rest of the campaign”.

“On the positive side young Aidan Smith came on and scored another goal against Rangers.  He’s still young with plenty to learn, we’ll continue to work with him and hopefully he has a big future ahead”.

“Also we shouldn’t forget we’ve started with three wins from four, had you offered me that before the season started, I’d have taken it so we’ve got to be happy”.

“Our game on Saturday is going to be another tough challenge, St Mirren have had a slow start to the season, they too have new players and a new manager but have quality within their ranks.  I watched them last week against Livingston and they dominated and only got a draw.  It’ll be tough but one we’re looking forward to”.

In terms of the squad for this weekend, “we felt the red card issued to Derek Lyle in the game against Rangers was harsh and have therefore lodged an appeal, the hearing will take place next week, so while we await the outcome, Derek will be available for selection”.

“And we have now received International clearance for Liam Coogans who joined us on loan from Huddersfield before the transfer window closed, so he along with other new signing Gary Oliver will be in the squad”.

“Calum Tapping has now returned to training but is still a couple of weeks away from being available for selection so he’ll still be on the side lines along with Dale Hilson”.
