Reilly reacts to Falkirk result

Gavin Reilly hit his fourth of the season on Saturday but admits he was frustrated not to take three points from Falkirk.

Reilly opened the scoring in the second half but with ten minutes to go an unfortunate Mark Durnan deflection gave the Bairns a share of the points.

In James Fowler’s first match in charge of the Doonhamers, Reilly insists a draw isn’t a terrible result however, and he’d like to see the Interim boss get the job full-time.

He said: “It’s a bit frustrating not to take the three points especially after going one nil up away from home and you’re looking to see games out. At the end of the day it’s such a tight league we’ll come here and take a point, it’s a point gained rather than points lost.

“It would have been good for us to start with a win under James but this year, in this league, it’s so competitive and a point is better than nothing.

“James is a genuine guy who has a lot of experience playing for Kilmarnock in the SPL for so many years and he brings a lot to the table.

“He’s been with us since day one of this season and he knows the ins and outs of the team so it would be good to get someone who can keep things going as they are. We’ve been doing well so far, we’ve only lost one game out of the first five and if someone new was to come in it might hinder things. If it’s not broke, don’t fix it.

“It’s been a hard week but James has done well to come in and we’ve given him all the backing we can, hopefully we can keep things going and it’ll put him in good stead to get the job.”

Reilly’s goal involved some fantastic link up play between himself and Danny Carmichael and the 21-year-old knows the importance of local players making an impact.

The youngster also insists he doesn’t set himself a goal target for the season, he believes his performance is more important.

He said: “For me and Danny, it’s good to be playing for our local club and it bodes well for the future. The fans want to see local boys being brought through so it’s great from all perspectives.

“I don’t set myself a target for goals, as long as I play well and I contribute to the team I’m happy. I’d like to get double figures this year and hopefully as things stand I’m on my way to that.

“I’m getting in to the areas and taking the chances on so if I wasn’t there and I wasn’t getting the chances then I’d be annoyed. One goal is better than no goals though!”

Next up for Gavin Reilly and the rest of the Queens squad is Hibernian at home this Saturday in the SPFL Championship.
