James Fowler’s first game in charge of Queens has left him hungry for more – although perhaps not on the pitch!
The Caretaker manager guided the Doonhamers to a 1-1 draw with Falkirk and he admits that he’s had some tough decisions but substituting himself in the second half wasn’t one of them.
He said: “Taking myself off was the easiest decision to make, nobody will be moaning about that one!
“Falkirk had that spell towards the end of half time and I thought to myself ‘I could go off at half time’ because I’ve had a busy week preparing everything with Ross Goodwin.
“I also felt for Kevin and Lewis who played well at Ibrox so I was conscious of giving them some game time.
“I was a bit frustrated to lose the goal so late in the game because I thought we had the better chances overall but with the week we’ve had it’s probably a decent point.
“I think possession wise it was equal and as the clock is ticking down you’re hoping to hold on but it wasn’t to be.
“The performance was good today, it wasn’t all about the result but overall I’m happy.”
Fowler also added that the players were sad to see Jim McIntyre go but he would love a crack at the job full-time as the players have been fantastic to work with this season.
He said: “Tuesday was a low day because the boys had a good relationship with the manager but the reaction has been great after that and hopefully that showed on the pitch.
“I spoke to the board briefly before the game and hopefully I’ll speak to them during the week to see the lie of the land and how they see it going forward.
“I came here to get on the coaching ladder and Jim McIntyre offered that to me – it might have come a bit sooner than I thought with the way things have gone! It’s something I want to do and I’m interested in doing it.
“From my first day I came in here, everyone was together and they all have high standards amongst themselves which is good because it takes a bit of pressure off the manager and the coaches.
“Off the field stuff is spot on, there isn’t any messing about and that’s all you can ask for.”
Queens return to Palmerston for the first time in four weeks as they host Hibernian next Saturday in the Championship.
