Livi League Cup loss hurts McIntyre

Jim McIntyre suffered a double blow against Livingston last night as Queens crashed out of the League Cup – and were faced with more injury worries.

Ian McShane limped off early in the first half with a potential groin strain adding to a long list of injured players.

McIntyre was speaking after Myles Hippolyte scored a late winner to knock the Doonhamers out of the League Cup in extra time.

He said: “The last thing that we wanted was to go to extra time but I don’t think we did enough to win in 90 minutes.  They’ve punished us right at the end and we’ve got to give them credit for that.

“The second half was a bit of a stalemate and they put away their one chance and we don’t. We’ve got one chance with Iain Russell and another couple of good chances with Danny Carmichael but the final touch was missing. I thought it was harsh though – both teams deserved to take it to penalties.

“We can play better and we know that but when you’ve got the amount of players that we’ve got out I can’t be anything but pleased with the team effort.

“Once again, another injury has upset us and we’ve had to make a change. It’s sore to take and lady luck certainly isn’t on our side right now. That’s another central midfielder we’ve lost and hopefully it’s not serious but he’ll be struggling for Saturday.

“Reilly and Carmichael were also struggling before the game and when you take in to account that we’re missing Mitchell, McKenna, Burns, Kerr and Paton these are key players for us. We’re very stretched at the minute.

“We won’t be at full strength and we might have to wrap the players in cotton wool before Saturday but we’ll be going there to win the game, that isn’t in doubt.”

Queens travel to face Rangers in a 3pm kick-off in the SPFL Championship this Saturday at Ibrox.
