Gavin Reilly produced a man of the match performance on Saturday against Alloa – but the striker heaped praise on the entire squad.
The 21 year old smashed home the second goal in the weekend’s 2-0 victory at Palmerston and the Queens hitman was delighted with the way the Championship started for the Doonhamers.
With McIntyre’s men scoring ten goals in the opening three matches of this season, Reilly knows there is more to football than scoring.
He said: “It’s good to get off to a winning start and the goal makes it even better but the three points is the main thing. It gets us a good start to the season and hopefully we can keep it going.
“Going 2-0 up in the first half was great because we were on the front foot. It could’ve been more in the second half but we’ll take the three points and we’re happy with that.
“For the goal, my first touch wasn’t great and I was wanting to take it closer to goal but I just thought I’d give it a whack and I’m glad it went in the top corner.
“We’ve started well with goals and hopefully they can keep on coming but at the other end we have to make sure we keep them out.
“A clean sheet today is great and the defenders will be feeling good about that. Hopefully that can continue and we keep scoring at the other end.”
Reilly impressed the Palmerston faithful last year as he was Queens’ joint top scorer in the league and he believes the choices going forward bodes well for the Doonhamers.
However, the youngster is aware this means a fight for his place all season but he relishes the opportunity.
He said: ““The manager has got many options which is good for a manager but for me I’m scoring goals so hopefully I can keep my spot as it is just now.
“I’m always trying to improve my scoring record. I got 12 last season in the league and hopefully I’ll get more this year but the team is the most important thing. We got three points and I contributed well on Saturday.
“When we’re attacking and going forward it feels great because there are so many options. I can sit in behind the strikers, we have Derek Lyle and the two wingers attacking so it’s good to play in and it must be good for the fans to watch as well.”
Reilly will be hoping for more goals on Saturday as Queens continue their Championship season away to Dumbarton.
