After Tuesday`s disappointing defeat it`s a chance to bounce straight back for Queens on Saturday as bottom side Morton visit Palmerston. The Greenock side have had an undeniably disappointing season, and have struggled right through. Although Kenny Shiels has generally made them more competitive since replacing Allan Moore as manager wins have been just as difficult to come by. They could conceivably be relegated on Saturday. For that to happen Queens would need to win and Cowdenbeath would need to beat Hamilton. Stranger things have happened................
Morton have managed just one point from their three previous clashes with Queens this season, that one coming when they had a two man advantage at Cappielow for almost the whole second half but could only manage a 1-1 draw courtesy of Archie Campbell`s late header. The other two games both finished up in 2-0 wins for Queens. The `Ton will be without centre forward Rowan Vine on Saturday following his red card against Cowdenbeath on Tuesday night.
Queens meanwhile lost a bit of ground with Tuesday`s defeat at Dundee. Falkirk`s win means we`ve slipped 5 points behind them again whilst Livingston`s win moved them to just 3 points behind in 5th. It now looks like they and not Dumbarton might be our closest rivals for that final playoff spot.
With Stephen McKenna making a surprise return to the bench on Tuesday just a week after it looked like his season was over, Queens probably have a full squad to choose from. Mark Durnan missed last weekend`s game with Cowdenbeath as a result of a training ground injury but returned to face Dundee so should be available for selection again. With just six games left this season it`s crucial that we get as many points on the board as possible as we strive to get that playoff place. We hope to see a good crowd along on Saturday to cheer the team on.
