Chris Higgins scored his second goal of the season on Saturday and the defender admits it wasn’t even a good strike.
However, the 28-year-old praised his provider Chris Mitchell for his part in Queens’ opener against Cowdenbeath on Saturday and the importance of set pieces for the team.
He said: “I don’t usually get many goals and think it came off my studs anyway but they all count! It is nice to get a goal but the main thing is that we won.
“It was a wee bit disappointing to lose a goal late on because, as a defender, you obviously want a clean sheet and it would’ve been nice to go in 2-0 but I think we were comfortable enough to deserve the win anyway.
“I think we could’ve had more goals as well because the deliveries from Chris Mitchell were unbelievable.
“Chris deserves a lot of credit because it’s all good and well that we move in to the right places but the delivery has to be spot on.
“I think every team works on set-pieces as they’re such a big thing in football these days.”
Higgins also has sympathy for Queens gaffer Jim McIntyre as his recent return to the squad will create one of many selection issues for the manager.
But the sole focus is on winning right now, starting with tomorrow’s game against Dundee – however Higgins has set his sights on a tough run-in.
He said: “No manager would want players who could just rest on their laurels and not play well and still stay in the team.
“He wants to have competition all over the pitch and he’s got that. Right through the squad, he’s got defenders, midfielders and strikers who are champing at the bit and with the run in we’ve got, everyone wants to play.
“There are so many top players and now the Manager has a decision to make for Tuesday if Mark Durnan is fit because you seen how well Holty played today as well.
“But the most important thing is that we concentrate on our results because if we start looking elsewhere you can take your eye off your own game so it’s one game at a time right now.
“We’ve got a big game against Dundee on Tuesday and it’ll be tough as they won on Saturday with a last minute goal so their tails will be up but we’re confident.
“Everybody can beat everyone in the Championship and it’s been that way for as long as I can remember but we’re on a good run right now.
“Obviously we don’t know the other results until we come off the park so right now we’re focusing on ourselves.”
