McIntyre delight at Cowdenbeath Victory

Jim McIntyre was over the moon with his Queens side after Saturday’s 2-1 victory over Cowdenbeath.

The win – thanks to goals from Chris Higgins and Gavin Reilly – keeps the Doonhamers in fourth, with a six point advantage over Dumbarton.

He said: “It was an important result for us and I thought we started well but credit to Cowdenbeath, they come right back in to it.

“In the first twenty minutes of the second half they made it very uncomfortable for us and we knew they would have a go.

“In that period though we’ve missed two real good chances to extend our lead and I thought on any other day we could’ve won by five or six.

“We were just a little but wasteful at times but some of our play was excellent and we even had to defend for our lives at times but it was a great showing from the boys.

“In front of goal we could’ve been a little bit more ruthless and it’s not the first time we’ve said that this season.

“We were also just a bit disappointed to see a goal go in at the end which I didn’t feel like we deserved.”

The win marks a tremendous run of form for the Doonhamers and the Gaffer knows how important every match is now with Queens sitting in fourth place.

But he insists all the focus within Palmerston is on their own fixture list – not the other results in the league.

McIntyre said: “The last three months we’ve been on decent form and in the last 14 games we’ve only been beat 3 times.

“But it’s all cup finals now and the run-in will be tough as nobody is out of that play-off spot and it will be difficult.”

“We have to look after ourselves and make sure we do our jobs and if we do that we won’t need to worry about anyone else.”

Queens will travel to Dundee on Tuesday night for another crucial Championship clash.
