Andy Dowie scored his second goal of the season to help Queens beat Alloa on Saturday but the centre-back was just as happy with a clean sheet.
The 30-year-old hit his first match-winner of his career but the defender is happy with the win at such a crucial stage of the season.
He said: “I don’t score many and I think that’s been the first time I’ve scored one and it’s been a winner.
“It’s a nice feeling and it’s something that doesn’t happen often, but I’m glad to get the goal and the three points.
“That was my second goal this season, the last one came a few months back against Cowdenbeath so I’m delighted it’s an important one.
“The clean sheet is definitely as important as the goal, that’s a defenders job first and foremost and I think the back four and the goalkeeper did really well today under tough conditions with that wind.
“We can play far better than how we did but it’s all about three points at this time of the season.”
Dowie is a journeyman of the Queens squad having played for Stranraer, Ross County, Dunfermline and Partick Thistle and the centre-back reflected on his goal-scoring record throughout his career.
The Doonhamers defender is aware he won’t be the top goal-scorer any time soon but Dowie insiststhe sole focus is the play-off spot.
He said: “I would guess I’ve scored between 15 and 20 goals in my career. I’m certainly not prolific but it’s not too bad for a centre half!
“I done well with the goals at Ross County for three years but then they started to dry up when I moved to Dunfermline and I scored one last season for Partick Thistle and now there’s the two this year.
“The play-offs are excellent, they’ve been a long time coming and we’re really pleased that we’re in the mix for that fourth spot.
“We know what we need to do, the manager had a good talk with us last week regarding what we think we’ll need points wise.
“It’s down to us to do it on the park and try and secure the play-offs but it’s going to be difficult.”
Queens lie fourth in the Championship with eight games to go, starting this Saturday at home to Cowdenbeath.
