McIntyre's delight at Dumbarton display

Jim McIntyre was full of praise for his Queens side after they ended Dumbarton’s unbeaten run.

The Queens gaffer guided his side back in to fourth place in the league after a 3-1 win yesterday and he was thrilled at the performance.

He beamed: “I’m delighted as Dumbarton are the form team in the league so we knew it was going to be tough and they were on an 8 game unbeaten run.

“First half we were excellent, we looked threatening and we controlled the game.

“In the second period Dumbarton put us under a bit of pressure and we scored against the run of play and that great finish from Bob was just what we needed at that time.

“I thought we defended well at times and I would have liked us to see out the game a bit better but I’m always looking for more.

“We knew how big it was that we had a chance to go above them in the league by beating them and no other result could affect that but our own.”

McIntyre is now looking to build on this weekend’s win as we hit the business end of the season.

He stated: “We hope to get a result against Hamilton next weekend and take it on further and we knew a win would take us above Dumbarton but that could all change again next week as it’s that tight.

“We have to take it one game at a time now as there are ten games left and it is crunch time to make the play-offs.

“At this stage of the season the games are crucial as earlier on in the year you can always look to make up the ground but now we’re looking at important games that are six-pointers.”

Dejected Sons boss Ian Murray believes the first half made Dumbarton’s afternoon even more difficult at Palmerston.

He sighed: “I think the first 45 we were so poor and if we’d gone in at half time one down we would’ve been delighted.

“But when you come here and you go two nil down before half time it’s a mountain to climb.”

Queens now sit fourth in the Championship and face second place Hamilton next weekend at Palmerston.
