Queen of the South notched consecutive league wins for the first time this season with a 1-0 victory over Raith Rovers at Palmerston Park.
The only goal of the game came after 25 minutes when a lovely passing move was laid into the path of Ian McShane by Derek Lyle and the young midfielder made no mistake as he found the bottom corner.
Manager Jim McIntyre said: “I think we ground the result out today, we scored a fantastic goal and we threatened their goal on a number of occasions. We felt the game was a wee bit open and that`s why we changed it and went a wee bit stiffer, changing the system. I thought we saw the game out really well.
“Ian McShane came on and scored a great goal and he`s not played for a wee while because he`s been struggling with his groin. He`s taken his opportunity really well today.
“Paul Burns was being violently sick on Friday and was still sick this morning so that was a blow because he`s a key player for us and Bob McHugh as well, our new signing, felt his thigh in the warm up so we couldn`t put him on so that was disappointing but great credit to the players who played.”
The win pushes Queens up into sixth place and just two points from the play-off places as the Championship table really tightens up.
McIntyre added: “Obviously the objective is to try and get closer to the pack, we`ve been speaking about that for a number of weeks and this result helps today.”
