Saturday will see Queen of the South host local rivals Annan Athletic in the First Round of the Scottish League Cup.
The League Two club pulled off a surprise win over Queens` Championship rivals Greenock Morton last week, running out 1-0 victors at Galabank in the Ramsdens Cup. Former Queens favourite Peter Weatherson grabbed the winner on 71 minutes.
The Doonhamers meanwhile saw off non-league Spartans 4-0 at Palmerston with goals from Stephen McKenna (2), Derek Lyle and Kevin Holt. New Queens manager Jim McIntyre looked back over his first competitive match in charge:
“Obviously every time you are drawn against opposition below you it can be a banana skin so we`re pleased to come through the game. To score four goals in any game is good and a clean sheet is very pleasing.
“The boys did most things well. I think sometimes when you`re up a few goals you can take your foot off the pedal a bit and there`s no doubt that happened.”
Following Annan`s impressive win last week McIntyre is no doubt wary of a similar result.
“Ideally we wouldn`t like to be playing a team that we`ve just played in pre-season. For us it`s going to be a really tough game. Annan gave a warning to all clubs above them with last week`s performance against Morton so we know we`re going to be in a really tough game.
“We`re hopeful that the punters come out in their numbers to give us a good backing.”
The Queens manager has the entire squad to choose from with no injury worries.
