Queens completed their pre-season programme with a 2-0 win at Workington Reds this afternoon. The match was a decent test in warm conditions for the players involved, though it was clear the English side were a week or two behind us in pre-season preparations.
We had the better of the early play and took the lead on seven minutes when Kevin Smith beat offside to escape down the left side and dink the ball across goal for Nicky Clark to acrobatically turn it into the net with an overhead kick. Although the home side threatened more as the half wore on, the win was secured in the final minute of the half when Smith himself this time chipped in a second goal following good work by Gibson and Johnston. Both sides made a number of changes in the second half but neither could add to the score.
