Too often this season Queens have suffered from conceding late goals but seldom can they have come as late as this. More than 95 minutes had gone when Falkirk captain Darren Dods rose to power home the only goal from a corner. Moments earlier it had seemed keeper Lee Robinson had clinched Queens a valuable point when he saved Mark Millar`s injury time penalty but it wasn`t to be.

Gus MacPherson had plenty of problems in the build up to this game with up to six players struggling through injury but in the end the only one not to make it was Stephen McKenna who had picked up an ankle injury in training this week. Unfortunately this was exactly the kind of game he would have shone in. However, in his absence Stephen Simmons had an excellent game anchoring the midfield. Elsewhere, Craig Reid and Scott McLaughlin returned from injury absences to retake their places in the side whilst Kevin Smith returned from suspension. That meant Alan Reid and Nicky Clark dropped to the bench. Gus clearly had decided first and foremost to try to defend solidly and despite the selection of two strikers it was largely a 4-5-1 that was employed as Tam Brighton playing a right of midfield position with Allan Johnston tucked inside him.

The early exchanges were a sign of things to come as neither side seriously looked like scoring a goal. The home side had the bulk of the possession but Queens with Carmichael and Brighton down the lines and Smith holding the ball up in the middle occasionally looked dangerous on the break. Nine minutes in Craig Reid went down holding his knee after a physical challenge on him and had to go off for treatment. Thought he soldiered through the next 25 minutes or so it was clear he was struggling and eventually Alan Reid came on to replace him before the break. Twice in two minutes Mark Campbell outmuscled Farid El Alagui in the air and cleared the danger though the Morrocan front man was looking for a penalty each time and continued a dialogue with the referee afterwards.

Queens first half decent attempt at goal came on 18 minutes when Johnston`s low free kick flew across the six yard box somehow evading everyone until Tam Scobbie cleared it away from the back post area. Falkirk broke two on one up the other end but Queens defended solidly and play was held up until Simmons got back to win the ball and avert danger. Four minutes later and Mark Millar almost broke the deadlock with a 30 yard shot that seemed to catch Robinson off guard. I think the keeper may have left the ball to go wide in fact but looked as surprised as anybody when it cannoned back into play off the post.

On 36 minutes Danny Carmichael won possession and set off on a break down the left side. Having beaten one man he knocked the ball beyond Mark Millar and would have been clear into the Falkirk half of the park had the midfielder not cynically body-checked young Danny off the ball. Quite how he avoided a booking for it I`ve no idea but the incident would eventually end Danny`s match too as the dead-leg he sustained couldn`t be run off and he was replaced by Nicky Clark just after half time.

Kevin Smith almost hugely embarrassed Darren Dods early in the second period when he nicked the ball off him in the Falkirk box. However, he couldn`t quite get it clear of the big defender`s body and it held up long enough for Dods to win it back. Two minutes later Queens made their third and final change when Scott McLaughlin departed to be replaced by Steven Black. I didn`t actually see any injury occur to the midfielder but you have to presume when we stuck a teenage centre half on for a midfielder as a final sub with 40 minutes to go that it was probably enforced. Perhaps a recurrence of the injury sustained at Ayr that had kept Scott out a fortnight previously?

Shortly afterward a dangerous ball in from the left looked to have given El Alagui a clear opening in front of goal until Campbell poked it off his toe at the last second and McGuffie completed the clearance before anyone else could get there. Queens only shot on target of the match arrived on 75 minutes when Nicky Clark was first to a loose ball in the box and struck it goalward. However, his shot was hit into the ground first and most of the pace had gone out of the ball by the time it reached McGivern who then saved easily.

With ten minutes remaining the home fans made their displeasure at Lee Robinson known when he stayed down for a brief time after colliding with Farid El Alagui. Blair Alston replaced David Weatherston but almost immediately young Craig Sibbald hit the ground after a collision with Steven Black and stayed down with players from both sides  immediately calling for medical assistance. The youngster was stretechered off and early indication are of a bad ankle injury. Let`s hope he recovers sooner rather than later. Jamie Fulton replaced him. There was a lengthy delay whilst all this happened which explains whey we were still playing at 95 minutes in case anyone is wondering.

With three minutes of normal time remaining Ryan McGuffie was booked for pulling down El Alagui 30 yards from goal but Lee Robinson easily dealt with Mark Millar`s free kick. Robinson himself however soon joined McGuffie in the book for throwing the ball away in the wrong direction when Falkirk were awarded a corner. He was rapidly incurring the wrath of the home fans! Worse was to come though. Four minutes into injury time Falkirk worked some space down the right side and when the cross came in for the first time all day El Alagui had escaped the close attention of Campbell. He threw himself at the ball for a diving header, Campbell made a late attempt to get back to him and  referee John Beaton had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. From where I was it looked a foul to be fair and Campbell didn`t appear to complain much. Given that a penalty was awarded in fact and that El Alagui had been under the ball in the centre of goal with no-one else between him and Robinson Mark was probably quite lucky only to be booked for it in fact.

Nice dive and almost got the shirt off Campbells back as the penalty was won

And so Mark Millar stepped up to win the game for Falkirk with his 94th minute penalty. However, he hit it fairly central and Robinson, diving to his left, blocked it with his legs and the rebound was hacked away for a corner. That should have been that but wasn`t. Instead from the resulting corner, Queens never sorted themselves out and when the ball was sent into the crowd of players in the six yard box Darren Dods rose highest to power his head behind Robinson and win the game. There was barely time to kick off.

Robinson goes the right way to block the penalty

A flap from Robinson gives the customary late goal

14:50
Players from both sides are wearing `Show Racism the Red Card` shirts in their warm ups
14:58
Unless a lot of people are cutting it fine this looks like the lowest Queens away support outside the Highlands for a good while.
15:01
I`ve just counted about 125 Queens fans in their seats at the moment.
15:02
Here come the teams, Queens wearing their change kit of red and black stripes again.
15:02
It`s going to be a slightly late kick off here it seems

Ignore the timings next to the match report. They are about two minutes slow

El Alagui wants a penalty for a challenge in the air by Campbell but he`s not getting one
14 min
Brighton is playing quite deep at times, almost wide right with Johnston inside him.

He`s still having a go at the ref over it

24 min
Brighton stumbles under a challenge from McGovern but it is never a penalty and he didn`t claim one.
27 min
Higginbotham shot hits Reid at close range. He wants a penalty but isn`t getting it either. He gets a lecture for complaining.
31 min
Craig Reid has had enough ofsoldiering on with that knee I think. He`s just told the bench he needs to go off. Alan Reid is warming up.
32 min
That`s the change being made now. Reid for Reid
36 min
Millar cynically takes out Carmichael as he breaks up the left side. I`ve no earthly idea how he got away without a booking there.
37 min
News elsewhere is that Colin McMenamin has equalised for Ross COunty at Dundee
37 min
Danny Carmichael is now down injured and needs treatment
38 min
Looked to be his left hip or thigh that was being treated. He`s up now and waiting to come back on.

Robinson saves a corner with a spectacular dive after a pass cannons off SImmons. That`s the end of the half
Half Time - HALF TIME
Half Time
Not a bad half of football. Queens have done ok though Falkirk have obviously had more of the ball. No saves of note from either keeper.
Half Time
Falkirk team are back out. Here come Queens
45 min - SECOND HALF
45 min
Second period underway
46 min
Times next to comments should be correct this half.
47 min
El Alagui has a shot from 25 yards but it trundled into Robinson`s arms

Danny Carmichael obviously hasn`t shaken off his injury either. Nicky Clark is on for him.
50 min
Kevin Smith robs Dods in the penalty area and the Falkirk skipper is very lucky to get the ball back
50 min
Weatherston heads back for Millar to lash a good 5 or 6 yards wide again.
52 min

53 min
I presumed we`d see some reorganisation but Black appears to have gone to central midfield
54 min
El Alagui is adjudged to have fouled RObinson. Looked soft but we had defended the situation anyway
55 min
Great defending from Campbell to stick a toe in ahead of El Alagui under the bar and McGuffie completes the clearance
55 min
Falkirk force a succession of corners
60 min
Smith wins another free kick from Millar. Falkirk are NOT happy.
60 min

66 min
Chris Higgins concedes a corner under no pressure at all.
67 min
The attendance is 3094 with 149 from Queens
68 min
Sibbald robs Campbell but Alan Reid steps inside well and mops up
68 min
Falkirk want a foul or a penalty for an incident with Campbell on the edge of the box. Didn`t quite see what happened but they got nothing
70 min
Higgins catches El Alagui in the face with a boot when the striker puts his head low at the ball.
72 min
Rocco Quinn has now scored for Ross COunty at Dundee I see. They lead 2-1
72 min
Simmons judged to have fouled Weatherston.
73 min
Millar wastes the free kick though, that`s over everybody
75 min
Nicky CLark has our first shot on target but it`s stabbed into the ground first and has no power. McGovern saves easily
78 min
Simmons robs Higginbotham but fires well over
80 min
Falkirk fans not happy with Robinson who stays down initially after a challenge from El Alagui
81 min
Falkirk make their first change with Blair Alston replacing the very quiet today David Weatherston
82 min
Good header out at a corner from under the bar. Might have been McGuffie. He and Brighton were in that area.
83 min
Some concern here for Sibbald who has gone down and not moved. Stretcher being called. Simmons was straight in and holding his legs still.
85 min
This looks serious. He`s certainly going off on the stretcher. Sub coming on
85 min
Craig Sibbald is replaceed by Jamie Fulton
86 min
Kieran Duffie narrowly fails to curl the ball into his own net though Clark was adjudged to have shoved him anyway
87 min
McGuffie is booked for clattering El Alagui 30 yards from goal
87 min
Millar lining it up
87 min
Straight at Robinson though who saves easily
88 min
Robinson is booked for throwing the ball away when Falkirk got a corner
90+1 min
Farid El Alagui is booked for clattering Simmons in the air
90+3 min
PENALTY TO FALKIRK

Campbell is booked. I think it was El Alagui he pulled back
90+4 min
ROBINSON SAVES IT
90+5 min
GOAL FALKIRK
90+5 min
Robinson saved the penalty from Milalr and it was cleared for the corner but in the 95th minute Darren Dods powered the ball in with a head.
90+6 min
What a nightmare!
90+7 min
There was no time to do any more than kick off. Dods header was the last meaningful touch.
