The preperations for the new season continued at Galabank where Queens took on Annan.
New signings John Baird and James Fowler both started the game but otherwise the team had a very familiar look about it.
The only goal of the game came in 11 minutes when Swinglehurst headed a spectaculor own goal. Chris Mitchell delivered a fantastic cross from the right and with two attackers waiting at the back post, the Annan defender had no choice but to attempt a clearance. His diving header, though, crashed into the net, giving Alex Mitchell in the Annan goal absolutely no chance.
Queens continued to dominate much of the first half and should have extended their lead. Paton, Kidd and Baird all had chances to score. The closest effort was a fantastic 25 yard strike from Baird which flew over Mitchells head but cannoned back off the crossbar.
The second half was a much more even affair but chances were few and far between and neither side looked much like scoring. Both sides made a number of substitutions and, as is often the case, this broke up the flow of the game.
Overall, a good win against a decent looking Annan side. Queens fans next opportunity to see the side will be a week on Sunday when Rotherham come to Palmerston and its new pitch.
