A sad ending

It was a very sad day for all Queens` fans this afternoon as a 3-1 defeat by Raith Rovers at Stark`s Park saw us relegated to the Second Division.

After ten seasons in Division One it was a bitter blow for us all!

The homesters opened the scoring on the 15 minute mark with Brian Graham the man on target.

It got even worse when that danger man John Baird netted ten minutes into the second half.

However there was a ray of hope when young Dan Carmichael scored within four minutes to get us back in the game again.

But it just wasn`t to be!

Pat Clarke netted a third for Raith Rovers late in the game and with Ayr United finishing up 3-2 victors over Dundee it was the Somerset side who ensured First Division status.

Said Gus MacPherson afterwards, "Naturally I`m extremely disappointed!

"That 90 minutes out there today more-or-less summed up our whole season.

"We all knew we had to win and rely on Dundee beating Ayr, but neither materialised.

"We`ve defended badly away from home but our home record is comparable with many others in the division.

"Raith Rovers had some very experienced guys in their line-up and forced us on the defensive and we conceded that opening goal at a bad time.

"At 2-0 down we pulled one back which gave us a glimmer of hope and we were pushing hard for that equaliser.

"But it just wasn`t to be!

"It`s all very frustrating but there`s nothing we can do about it now.

"We`re going down and we`ve just got to accept it!"
