Board Blog

Welcome to the Board Blog

Welcome to the blog. Over the coming months I very much look forward to communicating with you on the progress being made at the club. The blog is set up to allow the fans to hear it first from the club and not in bars and clubs around the town. We as Directors are the first to put our hands up and say that communications last year left a lot to be desired. Hopefully this is a small step in rectifying the situation. As I have mentioned on public websites I am more than happy to take questions and will at all times endeavour to answer them but, you must understand that some matters have to remain confidential and stay in the board room until such times as they have been confirmed.

If you have any questions you would like to ask you can do so in the following ways :

  • add a comment to any blog post, using the "Comment" section at the bottom of each blog post
  • email me directly at marksblog@qosfc.com
  • on Twitter, send a tweet, with #qosfcboardblog, or direct message to @officialqosfc
  • on Facebook, comment on one of the blog post status updates (www.facebook.com/officialqosfc to find us)

Could I aso ask for patience when you post a question. The blog will updated on a regular basis and questions will be answered, on the blog, as and when the answers are available.

Latest signing

Great debut by big Sam. He really gave us some much needed presence up front. I think he will be a great asset over the coming months as we strive to climb the league. Gus is trying very hard to persuade a few that Dumfries is the place to come and play football. It is not easy when you are sitting at the bottom of the league to encourage these guys to join us but Gus is doing an excellent job in selling the club to them. I met Sam`s agent in Glasgow last Saturday night to try and close down the deal and I was convinced that he was the one for us. Here`s hoping!!!!!

QOS vs Morton

A more improved performance form the team, one which I hope you all enjoyed. It was great to see some of the young boys involved as I believe they do make a difference. Young Gavin should have scored and I am sure when he gets one many others will follow. What can I say about "Magic" he just continually turns in the performances and I am sure the younger players will learn lots from him. Model professional in my books. Ryan McGuffie took the armband on Saturday and I thought had an outstanding game against the big no9 for Morton. He always causes us problems but thought Ryan and Higgy handled him very well. All in all further improvement week on week.

Half Time Entertainment

Over the last few home games the Queens Commercial team, Queens Trust and local youth football clubs have provided half time entertainment which I hope you enjoyed. We hope to do more of this over the coming months and would ask that you turn out in number to support this initiative. It takes a lot to organise these events and I thank them for all of their hard work. If you have any ideas on how we can improve on what we already do then please post and I will respond accordingly. I thought the pipe band were tremendous and the weekend and hope to see them back soon.

Other club developments

May I take this opportunity to praise the hard work that Jim & Victoria (our commercial team) put in for the club? They work tirelessly and do not get the praise they deserve. We are working closely with them on a number of initiatives at present which would will improve the services we offer to the fans. Listed below is just a few which we are discussing and hope to announce soon:

1. Opportunity for cheaper Utilities prices for our fans
2. New Season Ticket scheme
3. New Lottery scheme

Queens Youths

Hopefully the nonsense has stopped out there about Queens doing away with the youths. I don’t know who makes up these rumours but one thing for sure they are not true Queens Fans. What we are looking at is how we get the youths more involved around the club. I remember when I was an apprentice up in Glasgow I had to sweep changing rooms, wash boots and do any other duties that I was given. In my opinion young footballers get it far too easy. Therefore we intend to get them more involved in the day to day things that need done about the club. Our youth coach Andy Irvine is in the process of organising and will be discussing this with the youths.

Look forward to hearing from you

Hi Mark, Regarding the future partnership with DGHP, I was wondering whether or not our new chairman's company Building Crafatmen would be the preferred company for this work? I imagine that his company would be doing this work for next to nothing but how does this work given that DGHP will be obliged to follow public tender procedures and be subject to FOI requests? I would hate to see Queens (and Dumfries business) lose out through this bureaucratic process. Cheers

Hi Mark, May I congratulate Queens on a magnificent performance against Aberdeen. This was without doubt the finest display by Queens against Premier League opposition for many a day. The fitness levels of the team are quite extraordinary and well done to Gus and Andy. However the disturbing news about Police and Stewards instructing some young Queens supporters to sit down and stop singing in the East Stand whilst visiting supporters were left alone has to be addressed ....
